Kuala Lumpur, 28 September 2024 – To raise public awareness on the importance of knowing the correct methods or techniques of CPR in providing early emergency assistance, Al-Islam Specialist Hospital organized the CPR Awareness Programme—FIMA Life Savers in conjunction with the Al-Islam Carnival 2024, in collaboration with the National Mosque.
Officiated by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), YB Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, this program is clearly in line with the second element of Maqasid Syariah. Through this program, participants were also taught basic knowledge and hands-on CPR training to enhance awareness of proper and high-quality CPR techniques. Participants were awarded a Hands-On CPR Participation Certificate.
Zulkifli stated that the concept of “saving one life is as if saving an entire ummah” is a principle we must uphold together, because in Islam, every life is precious, and it is our responsibility to protect and save it. “This is a shared responsibility that must be taken seriously by all levels of society. In this regard, we need to encourage a culture that supports and nurtures awareness of the importance of CPR knowledge,” he said.
A total of more than 588 participants from various educational backgrounds, agencies, companies, and the general public attended the program to undergo hands-on CPR training under the supervision of 53 qualified instructors.
The program also received support from various government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private bodies through their participation in exhibition booths and activities such as free health screenings, free dental checks, and physiotherapy consultations by Al-Islam Specialist Hospital.
In addition, there were exhibition booths by the Academy of Ibadah Friendly Hospital, Al-Islam Child Care Centre, Quit Smoking Clinic, Malaysian Relief Agency, Bone Screening, National Kidney Foundation, Bank Rakyat, Tabung Haji, Zakat Collection Centre, Ikhlas.com, International Homecare Nursing, and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council.
For the record, the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA), a global federation of Islamic medical associations, has been organizing the Lifesavers program annually since 2014, holding it every last Saturday of September. This year marks the fourth time Al-Islam Specialist Hospital has organized this program, and the hospital remains committed to continuing such initiatives in the future to enhance public knowledge and awareness on the importance of learning proper CPR techniques to save lives within the local community.
